I’m Wavering About My Job Due to My Parents’ Words

Question

It’s been 5 years since I started working; engaged in repairing cars at a small garage. I am so fond of cars and that was the reason for my job choices. Our president takes good care of the employees and we have good customers. However, my parents say that I should change my job, worried because there has been no pay raise in the past 5 years. (male/ 20’s)

A

Even if the company is small, you should never take your job for granted where the employees and customers are treated well and with respect. If you are contented with your work, then there is no problem. If there is a problem, it is your wavering kokoro that is robbed of judgment.

Understand your place and position deeply, and speak your thoughts and feelings to your family. The more this conviction deepens, the more clearly you will come to see the kokoro of your family members, which will lead you to become a person who gains meaning and purpose.

Always tell your family members what kind of thoughts you are working with in your workplace, how worthwhile your days are, how much you are supported by the people around you. When you can make yourself understood, then your parents will have a great sense of security and support you.

In our society where there are turbulent changes, working for a big company may not be your solution for security in life. Wherever you work, the importance is to strive to be a person who shows off his or her existence. Make yourself useful, honing your skills and personalities. As you become someone to be trusted and needed, then naturally you will have your pay raised and get a promotion.
