Troubled by Too Great a Difference in Character Between My Husband and Me

Now that I have started to live 24-7 with my husband who retired from his job, I am perplexed by a great difference in our characters, a great difference in the ways we perceive things. (Female in her 70s)

It is in the home/family where the soul―the true form of human beings―finds genuine peace. It is only when one’s home/family is a comfortable and warm environment that human beings can live a life with no grave problems―a way of living culminating in calm and peaceful days in their twilight years. Harmony in the family is indispensable for you to complete a life with no regrets. Now is the time that you must learn the way a family should be together with your husband, and strive to realize one.

The more a person deepens their learning of the teachings, their awareness grows and they are able to have the right involvement with others.
When each family member understands their place and position in the relationship to one another, they live a life that is one with their unmei

When we compare a family to a tree, the husband is the root that supports the entire family, while the wife is the trunk that connects the thoughts of each family member. Unless the husband and the wife come together as one, the tree may wither. So therefore, it is necessary for both of them to always communicate their thoughts with each other, understanding their own places and roles.

Each and every human being has their unique personality. The ways people think, their sense of values, naturally differ even between the husband and the wife. Or rather, the truth is that no two persons think exactly the same way. Therefore, if you keep on denying others just because the way they think is different from the way you think, you will not be able to broaden your human relations, ending up being left alone. With this in mind, cherish each and every encounter you have with people with an accepting heart.

Remember that the husband and the wife are bound together through deep karma. So therefore, when you positively get involved with your spouse with an open mind, you will come to see a new world, like, “I have never come up with such an idea like this, but I’m sure this will work.” “My perspective has been broadened. This is a new discovery.” Then your days will start to become more fulfilling. You will live each and every day sharing the joy of life together with your husband.
