(SY from Shizuoka Prefecture / 90s/ Female / Housewife)
I turned 91 years old this year. Every morning, I wake up with gratitude; “I’m still alive. I am given a life.” Like this, I start the day with joy.
I read the books published by Shinji Kyōkai every day, writing down the useful points. The more I learn, the more deeply I realize the importance of the teachings, and come to think I should have learned them earlier.
Living alone with a support of my family
Since I live on my own with no children, I have been trying to deepen the bonds with people around me, practicing The Ten Basic Teachings; “Family members, relatives, friends and neighbors strive to live in harmony.”
The other day, when I wanted to buy a smartphone to sign up for the e-mail newsletter of Shinji Kyōkai, which also provides streaming programs, my nephew came with me and made a good choice for me. My niece and my friends also showed me how to use the phone. At first I couldn’t do anything with my phone, but thanks to them, I can now watch the streaming programs with my smartphone all by myself .
Being grateful to be alive
In my spare time, I enjoy making dolls and masks stitch by stitch by hands, and give them to my relatives and friends. When they are pleased, I feel myself useful and meaningful.
Looking back my life, I had devoted myself to work up to the age of 88. I am so grateful for having worked regularly without any severe problems till my retirement and for being able to lead such a peaceful life now.
At my age, I feel that Kami would add a touch of color to our life, when we find our life is given to us. And if we make the best of encounters and have a good rapport with relatives and friends, we can make each connection and tie shine.
It was embarrassing for me to get older before, but now I feel grateful. This change would have never happened if I had not met this Kami. I will continue to learn the teachings to spend every single day with clear mind. Life is beautiful!
