I Started a Business; But the Difficulty of Managing It Makes Me Question About the Future.

I started a business with a friend, but it has become difficult to run it. My friend tells me that we can only succeed if we overcome difficulties. But my parents tell me to quit and get another job. I am faced with a choice and don’t know what to do next. (Male in his 20s)

Running a business is filled with a great deal of social responsibility; including taking care of the employees as well as the business partners. It is necessary to put these factors into consideration and make sincere judgments.

A kokoro of hōshi (the kokoro to give back) is essential to work. That is, not only to be bound by our own thoughts, but to do our best to do what others expect us to do. What was the purpose of starting the business? What should the company do? And what is required at the moment? With that in mind, it is important to calmly think about how to overcome difficulties and how you can be useful to society with your colleagues. During this process, it is important to talk about each other’s true feelings. If you both have different ways of thinking, then sit down and talk about whether there is a compromise. In this way, you should be able to make the right decision and the best choice. Furthermore, no matter which way you go, you will be able to fully demonstrate your abilities in the environment you choose. You will always find yourself to be useful to society, and enjoy a sense of purpose in life.

Have the determination to make use of the strength (abilities), that are protected by your unmei, for the realization of people’s happiness.
The more this kokoro (conviction) deepens, human beings will be protected by the strengths of their unmei; and experience true joy of living.
This is the principles of ikigai (the meaning and purpose).

It is also essential to objectively look at your own position and parameters; that is, your capacity and your financial strength. Let’s face the current situation firmly and consult with those around you and ask for cooperation as needed. That sincere attitude will give you support and open doors for you.

It is the family that supports the kokoro throughout your journey. Parents are the ones who know all about your strengths and weaknesses. So, be honest and open up about your thoughts to them. You will get emotional support and thus make better decisions.
